Looking in Lebanon, looking at Lebanon. Not the social blog, and surely not the political blog one expects from a Lebanese eye on our country. Journalistic? i would not say so. Street photography? there will be of course, but not only. Not even the artistic one you would expect from me. Just random images, and mostly a pretext to take my camera out and go in the streets.

Tripoli old souks - day two
these old souks are very close to where i work. 15 years ago, i used to go walk in there a lot. i lost this habit, got bored or got too much work. or it's just time. with years, the interest of discovery faded and i was only left with dirt, smell and ugliness.
it's good i have the double exposure to hide the surface of things, and go search beyond.
can you see how people look at me when i take photos? admit it's not easy to ignore!
this church ( it's name "the church of the Italians" and not the Italian church)
it's just facing my clinic. i took this image from the street but i could have taken it at eye level from our balcony.
I'm not really missing it, there... but i will soon be back. anyway.
this coffee boy walks in the city with his metallic carafes full of boiling coffee! not your "tasteless" western coffee :P , only the best Lebanese mixtures (in fact Brazilian brands)
streets and men. walls are not enough, i have to see people.
it was a Sunday.
in the old town, Sundays doesn't count, or barely. it only ends earlier, at work.
there are no day off. not totally, just two half days, Friday and Sunday.
that's hard!
this red rocking chair must belong to this girl. these are two images but literally could have been one.
birds and kids, on the roofs.

lol at "'tasteless' western coffee" - not at my place, kiddo :P
ReplyDeletebut we don't carry it down the street in those nice carafes! where is the young man coming from and going to?
these are all great images, Hanan <3
lol, i thought of you when i wrote that!
ReplyDeletein fact here, they boil the coffee, and no filters, so it's a whole different concept.
i'm sure that for real, your coffee is better, but how would i know ? ;)
he works in the streets, he goes from shop to shop, and in the streets everybody buys from him. the cup for a third of a dollar! it's a national thing, coffee.
coffee coming to me in the street for a third of a dollar sounds ideal!
ReplyDeletei had coffee made your way - "your" way - a few times years ago. but it was greek or turkish - i think yours has spice in it, this was just coffee.
in fact the coffee we drink here is the Turkish coffee. it has a very small amount of cardamom, and is boiled for less than a minute.
ReplyDeletethere is also the arabic coffee (traditionally offered after lunch in restaurants) it's much more boiled and with a lot more of cardamone. they can only drink of it a sip or two. lol, i don't understand what it is all about coffee, and people acting as if it was a drug.
oh it is a drug, believe me. i get a headache if i skip a cup. it's the caffeine. but coffee is healthy, it's full of anti-oxidants, helps prevent diabetes and some forms of cancer. :seriousnod:
ReplyDeletethe real arabic coffee sounds intense. i like something i can have ten or twelve ounces of. though i would give the arabic a try if it were served to me!
i believe you! :veryseriousnod: :D
ReplyDeletei hope you visit us in Montreal some day, i'll make you some :)
sounds good to me :D <3
ReplyDeletehanan...these are some of your best works.
ReplyDeletethey feel...or they make us feel life there.
*
tough looks you seem to be getting from the ole timers.
*
yes-
the double exposure works perfect..
thank you Stef. i tend to see them as one big work but i admit there are some i like also individually.
ReplyDeletemy initial motivation is to show you the ambiance.
oh these old men. they must think i'm a journalist (they always do) and they must think it's not a job for a woman, lol.
:blowkiss:
I see you Ms Hanan...where you are
ReplyDeleteand I smell the coffee...I now drink tea....but when I do drink coffee, it must stand a spoon in the cup or it is not worth the time
street work takes some getting used to...people, they sometimes become annoyed by a photographer's presence
well...if you're grumpy looking like me...it just takes more convincing maybe
i think i am looking very grumpy then. or it's the people :)
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by, Mark!
